Grammy Pammy just informed me that the proper name is "duct tape" (as opposed to "duck tape"). I, however, prefer "duck" to "duct". I also refer to "pinktails" as "pigtails". I think it has something to do with my love of animals. After all, ducks are cute, while ducts...yeah, not so much.
It's "duct" tape, as in air-conditioning ducts that are taped together, but it is more and more familiarly known as "duck" tape....oh well....doesn't really matter....
ReplyDeleteIt's duct tape ... I lost some this weekend in the attic.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter wears a "pony" not a "pony tail" and she calls rubberbands "ponies".

Yes, ducks are cuter---especially baby ducks...soft and downy...yellow or soft brown---so why is duck tape silver?? Shouldn't it be yellow?
ReplyDeletepinktails? what is that? i've never heard of that. must google.
ReplyDeleteI can see why you got the term confused. First of all, "duct" and "duck" sound very similar. Second, to make matters worse, one brand of duct tape actually has a picture of a duck on its packaging, which, when I saw it, made me question my own understanding of the correct term. "Wait," I thought. "Is it duck tape? I thought it was duct tape..."
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that I'm going to call it "duck tape" from here on out. True, that's what I was calling it before, but now it's official. :P
ReplyDeleteDuct tape is a tried-and-true method of fixing things, not a quick, nonprofit fix.
ReplyDeleteA good engineer needs only two tools: duct tape, and WD-40. The Golden Rule: If it moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use WD-40.
There you have it: four years of torture compressed into two sentences.
I'm with Jes, I always thought it was pigtails like the . . . wait for it . . . pig tail. But piNKtails sounds very cute and girly so I guess it could work too.
