Banner on the (now infamous) Rangers versus Blue Jays game...

In case you missed it, THIS HAPPENED at the Ranger's game on Sunday.

Here is what the brawl looked like from our seats...

Banner's thoughts on the game and fight (in no particular order):

  • "The Good Guy got The Bad Guy out."

  • [On baseball turning into hockey and both teams running on to the field] "That guy just needs a hug."

  • "Maybe there was a spider on The Bad Guy's face and The Good Guy was just trying to be nice by punching it off."

A bunch of words about nothing...

It has been an exciting week.  And by that I mean that not much really happened.  Well, there was that strange lady at Ali Baba's last Thursday that POKED my falafel, but that is more irritating in a "I didn't touch YOUR food so leave mine alone" kind of way.  I'd say it would be different if I knew the lady, but, no, actually.  It wouldn't.  And, furthermore, why is not touching someone else's food not universal?  Because, seriously, leave my falafel alone!

But enough about weird falafel pokers in floral pants at Mediterranean food restaurants.  The best part of that story was why I was there in the first place.  Namely, it was the going away party for one of my coworkers.  The same coworker I bought cheap potato vodka for while ten months pregnant back in December.  So, it only seemed appropriate to send him off with a couple more liters of the good stuff.  And this time I bought it while holding the baby formula I had just purchased next door at Babies R Us.  Because I just can't help but look like parent of the year when buying alcohol, and it never occurred to me that I was doing anything that would get strange looks until, well, I got strange looks.  Namely from the young man at the checkout.

[Shakes head]

I would have attempted to explain the situation to him, but somehow I figured any explanation would only make me look more guilty.  So I simply paid for my vodka, picked up my baby formula and headed back to my car.

Alley Cat and Banner.

And why was I buying baby formula?  Because I got sick AGAIN and the doctor could no longer condone my method of crossing my fingers and trying to will myself to get better against a bacteria that obviously had another agenda.  So, as of last Wednesday, I've been on the good drugs.  Banner can't have my milk until 2 or 3 days after I take my last pill (it is a 10 day course), so I am pumping and dumping in the interim.  Only problem is that the drugs have substantially cut into my ability to make milk, and it is all I can do to produce more than a few ounces.  So I am pumping like crazy when I DO produce in the hopes that I can maintain something until after I swallow that last pill.  Even if that only means pumping hard for two sessions daily to keep from completely drying up, I'll take it.  The pediatrician said that Banner will continue to receive the immune system support if he can have a bottle of the good stuff a day.  I've been rationing out the last of my frozen supplies this week and last, and my hope is to be able to continue to produce a single bottle a day for at least another month or two after the antibiotics leave my system.

On the flip side, though, I have to admit that only pumping two or three times a day is absolutely liberating.  Even if it makes me feel horribly guilty to admit it.  Of course, it helps that the little guy hasn't turned up his nose at formula, and will eagerly down either the ready made "milkshake" or the powdered stuff without even blinking an eye.  He also enjoys trying new solids, and is just - overall - a good eater.  We are very blessed.

Banner's favorite toy at daycare is - hands down - the piano.
He sees it on the mat, lights up and starts reaching for it.

Not so surprisingly, the little guy LOVES peas.  According to daycare, this isn't always the case with babies.  I'm guessing the babies that don't like peas didn't have a mama that ate a can and a half of peas for dinner quazi-regularly while pregnant.  Next on the list?  Carrots.

Trevor says he thinks it looks like Banner killed a smurf in his latest piece of art.

Speaking of daycare, Banner has started army crawling after me when I put him on the mat in the morning and start heading for the door.  He isn't upset that I am leaving, but seems inclined to try and follow me any way.  Makes it that much harder to leave him.  :(

He has also developed stranger danger lately.  But only with men.  He doesn't like it when he sees the other daycare dads drop off or pick up their kiddos.  Especially, Austin and Emma's fathers.  Banner sees them enter the room, sticks out his lower lip and starts to wail.  The same goes for Uncle Adam, but that might be because he hasn't seen him a lot recently.

In a post pea happy place.

Trevor asked me to pick up Banner last Wednesday because he needed to "work late".  Except he was really just planning to go to the Ranger's game with a group of his coworkers.  I, of course, found out the truth by accident when Trev accidentally spilled the beans while taking baseball with a friend of his in front of me.  Like I'd never figure it out eventually!

Sadly, the group fell apart when they realized that very few of them cared about the baseball game enough to warrant sitting in the 100+ temps for hours.

Wimps.  Obviously, they aren't true fans!

In related news, Trevor is considering spending $100 to buy his son a snow monkey Ranger's toy on ebay.

Haskell is Haskell, not Lassie.
He tries to tell us stuff and we are still absolutely clueless.

WHAT NOT TO SAY TO A NEW MOTHER #943:  Please refrain from telling me horror stories about children that died in horrible accidents while learning to pull up and walk.  I am still haunted by the tale of the toddler that pulled up on a bird bath in the backyard and was killed when it fell on top of him.  OMG!

The Thor thing continues.

I have the oddest intern in my eight year career at the museum this summer.  She loves doing interviews, but proposed interviewing a pantless guy wearing a ski mask that wants to go by a pseudonym on camera the other day.  Part of me says this is a bad idea and the other part of me wants to see if she is bluffing or not.

Banner loved the beard.

Trevor has been sporting a beard for the last month or two, and Banner absolutely loves it.  He'd "pet" his daddy and pull on his whiskers.  So, we were worried when Trevor shaved it off on Saturday that Banner would no longer recognize his father.  But the B-Man didn't even seem to notice when his dad returned clean shaven.  We either don't give the little guy enough credit to be able to recognize his own parents, or Banner inherited my incredibly poor observation skills.

Have I mentioned how much I love my boys?

In completely unrelated news, I was very upset by Ann Curry's sudden departure from the TODAY SHOW late last week.  Which surprised me because I really didn't think I cared.  I usually have a rather "Meh" feeling about most celebrities.  Well, except for Robert Downey, Jr.  For reasons I don't pretend to understand, I strongly dislike the man and have a tendency to boycott his movies which greatly distresses Trevor (because: IRONMAN!  And SHERLOCK HOLMES!).  But this whole Ann Curry situation has caught me completely off guard.  I think it is because I've been watching her on the show since I was seventeen.  And, well, apparently I don't take too kindly to unnecessary and abrupt changes to my morning routine.

Stay cool, my babies!

Sometimes being a museum geek has its perks...

A bunch of us had the opportunity to visit the temporary storage facility for the Bush Library today, and take a tour. Photos weren't allowed in most of the building (for security reasons), but we were allowed to snap away in what the staff called "The Bling Room".

It was very cool:

Autographed baseballs, bat and Bush's 2010 ALCS ring.

Trevor would have drooled over these.

The ball standing up was signed by Ted Williams.

The signatures on the bat weren't too shabby, either.

The infamous bull horn.

A sample of Bush's extensive boot collection.

This pair had the White House on the front and the Texas State Capitol on the back.

Jewel encrusted stirrups.

Apparently, Mrs. Bush never wore the entire set at the same time.

The Pope sat in that chair.

There were several other things in "The Bling Room" that I never got an opportunity to photograph, but wish I had. Especially, a print that was dedicated the morning of September 11th, 2011 before the attacks began. Not only was it historically significant because of the date, but the glass in the frame had turned green after being radiated during the subsequent Anthrax scare.

Regardless of how you feel about the former President or his politics, it was a history nerd's playground. Very, VERY cool.

Teddy and Game Six of the World Series...

His hopes were high, but - after watching 11 innings and coming so agonizingly close - it just wasn't meant to be.

Doh!

For Phil...

...in response to his commentary to THIS POST:

Better?

I mean, really: Are cardinals all that intimidating? I guess I don't get why multiple professional sports teams want to use them as their mascot. Panthers, yes. Giants, yes. Kings, yes. Cardinals, no.

Because cardinals are happy little birds that eat at my feeder in the springtime.

IF the Rangers lose another game, though, feel free to pose your cat, Sawyer, sticking his tongue out at a Rangers NHL jersey. Turnaround being fair play and all that stuff. ;P

I get it. Everyone has problems.

The one consistency though out my first pregnancy is that it has been one of the loneliest, most confusing times of my life. And I am not saying that because I am being melodramatic or because I am having a bad day. In fact, today has been rather uneventful other than the Rangers' amazing extra inning walk off grand slam victory over the Tigers.

Speaking of which: That was awesome. I stayed on the elliptical machine for an hour after lifting because the game was so nail bitingly tense and stressful to watch. I didn't even notice as the minutes ticked by. The Rangers finally pulled it out in the 11th inning, which brought my cardio marathon to an end. All in all, I burned 1275 pre-pregnancy weight calories according to my heart rate monitor, which makes me feel a little less like the giant fat a$$ I've become over the past 7+ months.

(I've decided it is all about the small victories in the third trimester.)

So, see? It wasn't a bad day. If anything it was productive and exciting.

It is just that being pregnant at a time when none of your close friends are is isolating. I do not feel like I have anyone I can confide in, and it is all so overwhelming. In an effort to help sort things out, I've asked the advice of pretty much every person I can think of with small kids and babies. People have been so generous with their time and answers, so I really have nothing to complain about.

Still, I feel so alone. What I wouldn't give to have a close friend to go through this with. Or an older sister with kids of her own. Someone I could really talk to. Relate to. Trust.

Because I am scared.

Trevor has been great, but he is just as clueless as I am. We've been trying to be proactive, plan and make decisions, but that is so hard when you have absolutely no idea what you are doing.

I also have some really amazing girlfriends, but they are either not in this particular baby-making phase of life or they live halfway across the country.

Conversely, the friends I have in the area that DO have kids or are pregnant are wonderful people, but none of them I would classify as being necessarily close to me. They just aren't the kind of friend I'd call in tears because my boobs itch and won't stop or because I got overwhelmed trying to register at Babies R Us for the third time.

And I get that my first world pregnancy problems are pretty stupid in the grand scheme of things, and I will probably look back on all of this and roll my eyes that I ever thought THAT was a really issue. But then again, doesn't everyone need someone to talk things through with sometimes? I doubt I am the first or the last pregnant woman in history that needs a little extra reassurance before bringing another human being into the world.

I guess what I am saying is that I don't want to be a bother to anyone, but I am feeling a little lost, confused and afraid at the moment and I have no one to turn to. I just keep thinking that everyone else is has real problems, and, well, my boobs itch a lot and my back aches and who the f*ck really cares. And then I cry because that is what I do. But I don't let Trevor see because he'd just think I'm being silly and hormonal, and I don't want him to know that I am freaking out (again) and my heart is doing that thing (again) that makes him so nervous.

So, I stay up way too late writing a blog post about it all instead. It will solve nothing, but at least I might be able to sleep tonight.

And maybe tomorrow I will feel a little less overwhelmed and alone and things will get better.

Who knows: the Rangers might even manage a third win in a row against Detroit.

There is always hope, right?

What Haskell thinks of Tampa Bay...

And, yes. He wore his jersey ALL day to ensure a Rangers victory.

Side note: Do you have any idea how hard it is to capture a dog sticking his tongue out on a not smart (a.k.a. VERY dumb) phone? With a weird photo capture delay I don't pretend to understand? And TWICE in one morning, to boot? All I was trying to do was take a picture of Haskell to prove to Trevor that the dog was, indeed, sporting his Rangers jersey. This is the one I finally sent Tevo:

Yo.

Saturday, October 01, 2011

In case you were wondering...

...Haskell deserves all the credit for the Rangers' postseason win tonight against Tampa Bay.

The Rangers were down while Haskell got his biweekly bath. But the second he was (mostly) dry, Haskell donned his lucky jersey and the Rangers scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 4th.

Coincidence? I think not!

Good dog, Haskell. Good dog.

On picking your own brother out in a crowd (or not)...

Last night, while watching the Rangers beat Tampa Bay, I spied Spencer in the stands directly behind (and a little to the right) of Nolan Ryan in the dugout:

Me: "Look, Trev! It's Spencer!"

Trevor: "Where?"

Me: "Right there. Behind Nolan Ryan and one row up."

Trevor: "That's not Spencer."

Amy: "Sure does look a lot like him."

Me: "It is totally Spencer."

Trevor: "Guys, I think I know what my own brother looks like."

But, guess what: IT WAS TOTALLY SPENCER.

Five minutes later:

Trevor: "Hey, look! It's Spencer!"

Me: "Um. Yeah. We know."

Like you couldn't figure out what I was talking about...

Dear Trevor,

I think the phrase, "they are going to ball him out" is a perfectly adequate description of what is more commonly know as "walking the batter".

Plus, the announcers were calling for a homerun, and I totally called that Anaheim was going to ball out Murphy on the first pitch. So there.

Love,
Deals

WOO-HOO RANGERS!

Guess who has a VERY happy husband?!

We had tickets for game seven, but I am so glad we won't have to use them!
WORLD SERIES HERE WE COME!

Have I mentioned that Trevor LOVES the Rangers?

Trevor is so nervous about the Rangers game this evening that he:

  • is doing random loads of laundry.

  • has sorted the mail, thrown away the junk and filed all the important stuff.

  • and has tidied up the kitchen.

If it weren't for all the frustrated yelling at the TV and nervous pacing around the house, I'd be sports-stressed Trevor's number one fan.

Happy Birthday, Trevor!

Have I mentioned that Trevor loves the Texas Rangers? He loves them so much in fact that he has been quoted as saying, "I will be happy if the Cowboys do not win another game all season as long as the Rangers make it to the World Series".

So imagine how giddy my husband was when his brother called him at 10:15 AM this morning to ask if we would like to go to the Rangers game this afternoon?! I've never seen Trevor so excited. Not only did he have a hard time selecting which Rangers' shirt to wear to the game (he has several choices), but he was in such a rush to get to the stadium before noon (for a 3 PM start) that he couldn't bare to fill his gas tank all the way up at the gas station on the way. He was a like a little kid on Christmas. It was very cute.
