Walking in Fields of Gold...

My father is a cattle-rancher, so I did a fair share of my growing up on a ranch in the central Texas hill country.

Trevor and I spent a week down there over the New Year's holiday with the three dogs ("Gypsy Kitty", "Alley Cat" and "Dolly Dog"), and it was a welcomed retreat from hectic city life. We went on daily "hikes" around the ranch; stopping every once in a while to let the dogs splash around in one of the stock ponds that still (surprising enough) had water in it.

We took a lot of pictures during these afternoon walks, and captured many a beautiful sunset. It seemed a shame to not share the images with everyone - especially now that the holidays are over and we are all back to the daily grind. I hope the pictures convey the same sense of peace and relaxation that I felt in taking them.

Texas - it's like a whole other country.

Great pics Deals! I love the windmill, and sunset (or sunrise) shots. And the sky! How beautiful! I've been down in the Hill Country a few times. You can do some neat hiking around there. Did you eat at the Grist Mill too? I LOVE that place!

I can't say that I've ever been to the Grist Mill (actually, to be honest, I've never heard of it but Texas IS a big place and all).

All the pictures were taken in the Burnet-Lampasas-San Saba county area (essentially an hour or so north of Austin) at one of the family ranches.

Oh, and by the way, I was on VACATION so there was NO, taking pictures of sunRISES on this trip. I'm much more of your late-to-bed-late-to-rise kind of person (at least, if left up to my own devices). Thus, all the pictures were of sunSETS (which I was both awake and alert for...).

Glad you liked the pictures!! :)

Ahh, I'm a sunset kinda girl myself. I took a TON of sunset pictures of our cruise, and then one of the people we met emailed me her pics and they were a ton of sunrise pictures. It's funny, but I didn't see the sunrise a single day on the cruise, so at least I saw it in pics.

ONE of the family ranches? Sweet!
The Grist Mill is in Gruene. By San Marcos/Austin. George Strait country.

JLR: So, RR told you that Trevor and I almost got shot at by a crazy lady, huh?! Some people shouldn't be allowed to own guns and/or go hunting. She was some serious loony tunes, if you ask me!

Katie: You've heard about the drought, huh?! Normally, that is one of the largest lakes on the ranch, and I can remember fishing off that dock in the summertime (I can even remember a time when the lake was SO full that the dock was completely submerged!). Now, it is bone dry - not even muddy at the bottom.

The pictures WITH water were of other stock ponds on the ranch that were also amazingly low (normally, there is water all the way up to the tree line). Plus, the creeks that normally feed all of these ponds are completely dry as well. We need rain!

AM: When I was taking pictures of the sunsets, I turned to Trevor and told him that I was going to post them on my BLOG. He looked at me funny, and asked if I thought that anyone from PLANET BLOG would even be interested in seeing pretty pictures of central Texas sunsets. My immediate response was, "YES! AMSTAFF likes to photograph sunsets, too! I know she'll appreciate them!"

So, thanks for responding to the pictures the way that I hoped/said you would! :)

How ya feelin'? I'm still having problems with stairs! But I think I'll survive. It was doubtful on Sat. afternoon!

I thought they took pictures of us, but I couldn't find any, just our results. Have you seen them?
