Labor Day retreat at the ranch (a photo-BLOG)...

Note: Be sure to hold your cursor over each picture to see my commentary...

The road to the peak…

And then it barely even rained…

Dark and imminent…

From left to right: Haskell, Alley Cat (Trevor’s dog), and Gypsy Kitty (in the back)…

From left to right: Haskell and Gypsy Kitty…

Haskell bumming a ride from Trevor…

Why does Haskell look like a sack ‘o’ potatoes?!…

Is it just me, or does this sign look like it reads: JESUS-LORD HOPPER (instead of Jesus = Lord AND Hopper = owner of this ranch)?!?!…

no pictures of the horsies?

They only came galloping up to me in the dead of night. Unfortunately, no camera with me at the time...sorry!

(They all looked really good, though)

i was wondering what the significance of Jesus be the Lord of the Hopper was, glad you cleared that up.

Jesus-Lord Hopper's place is across the highway from our ranch. He's always had the "Hopper" sign, but the Jesus-Lord is new. It is just the way the sign is laid out, I guess. I knew what he meant, of course. Anyway, I thought it was funny – especially now, because when my dad tells a story about his ranching neighbor, Hopper, we all chime in with, "You mean, Jesus-Lord Hopper"? Nothing to do with the man’s religious beliefs, mind you – just the lay out of the sign.

haha, up in Sanger (practically Canada to you) there is a sign for the Sanger Inn, but for some reason they decided to inset Inn underneath and between the S and R of Sanger so it almost lookes like the Sanger Sinner, which just makes me laugh when you are talking about a small town hotel

I think you need to have a disclaimer under Haskell's taxi photos that says "No dogs were harmed in the taking of this picture" or something. Because that just looks painful. But it doesn't look like he minds it. At all.

I've never seen/heard of Alley Cat. Did I miss him/her at the apt. the other day?

It is uncanny how much those dogs look alike!!! TRIPLETS!!! by anotha motha.

Katie: Haha...I love signs! I try to take pictures of the ones that make me laugh (or say something “else” by accident). :P

AM: Haskell still has a pretty bad limp (from his run-in with the car back in June) - especially when he decides to over-exert himself, like at the ranch last weekend. We had walked out past the peak to see the rain cloud, and when we turned around to head back to the house, little Haskell just couldn't keep up. Hence, the reason why we were carrying him (Note: I was carrying him first, but in front of me, not on my shoulders like Trevor). When we'd put him on the ground, and he couldn't keep up, he'd just hobble and squeak. Carrying him home was really the only option, and he didn't seem to mind AT ALL. Although, he does look like he is dead or something in the photograph.

Anyway, yes, Trevor and I have a monopoly on black-dogs-with-white-chests-and-paws. I don't know where Alley Cat was when you visited. Oh, wait, yes I do. She was playing with Gypsy Kitty and Haskell was spending quality time with his dad (because he was with "lamp" at the time). Alley is our little spaz.

Jayleigh: They are sweet doggies. A little on the wimpy side, but very friendly. :D

Well, I will just have to meet their aquaintence sometime. Poor little Haskell. He might never recover physically completely, but he is definitely loved and that's what matters.

We took Abs on a walk once at Ray Roberts Park and thought it would be nice to go on the "horse trail". 1/2 way into it, we realized that this path was practically the doggie equivalent of bamboo up the fingernails. There were MOUNDS of stickers (not the kind you wanted as a kid either). She'd take a few steps and limp, and then stop. Brian finally ended up carrying her, but in front of him instead of the sack of taters display of Haskell. Too bad she's 55 pounds!

Beautiful pictures! And the sign is funny in its own way.
