Crater Lake...

Two years ago, Trevor, Melissa and I attempted the hike to Crater Lake. We got a late start, though, and only made it part of the way. Yesterday, Trevor and I finally made it.

The hike to Crater Lake is easy, but long. It is just under 6 miles to Crater Lake from the trailhead at Andrews Lake (just south of Molas Pass). So, round trip, you are easily looking at 11.5 to 12 miles. It took Trevor and I three hours to hike in, and another three hours to hike out. The entire time, storm clouds threatened to soak us, and more than once I shot Trevor a worried glance because of the of not-so-distant rumbling of thunder. Somehow, though, we managed to complete the entire hike from start to finish without getting wet. This was all the more amazing considering that both our starting point and our destination showed signs of a recent downpour. Obviously, we got extremely lucky.

Here are some of our pictures:

Don't tell Haskell, but the hike is only halfway over...

The lake that Haskell and Alley fell in while chasing a marmot whistle...

To say that our dogs were exhausted after the hike would be the understatement of the year. Haskell, for one, could barely muster enough energy last night to raise his head. And Alley somehow convinced Trevor that she was so sore that she needed to curl up with him on the couch. Poor babies. Yesterday was a good day to be a dog.

Thanks to the utter exhaustion of the Awesome Pawsome, though, Trevor and I managed to (FINALLY!) sleep in this morning. It also helped that we had thunderstorms from about 6:30 AM to noon. Quite frankly, there was little reason to get out of bed. It was a wonderfully relaxing and oh-so lazy kind of morning.

Tonight Trevor has plans to take me to the same restaurant that we went to two years ago to celebrate THIS EVENT. Apparently, time really does fly when you are having fun!

Wow, what an amazing hike! No wonder the dogs were exhausted when it was done!
