The rain clouds broke just long enough for Trevor and I to venture outside on a hike this afternoon. Not knowing how long the sunny skies would last, however, we decided to keep the hike short and to a destination that we had been many times before.
I've blogged about Spud Lake before. It is a beautiful little hike just north of Durango Mountain Resort. Trevor and I can easily travel the mile up to the lake in 15-20 minutes so it is the perfect hike to take if you are acclimating or have limited time to be outdoors. As an added bonus, the hike also parallels a stream, so there is plenty of fresh water for the doggies.
Normally, we walk around the lake, but the clouds were rolling in and thunder was booming in the distance. So, we decided to play it safe and head back down. Good thing, too. About halfway down the trail, there were multiple flashes of lightening that made us glad we were back in the trees and close to the car.
